Easy, Tart Fresh Passion Fruit Limeade

Ivannoe and I really wanted to make a drink recently and let the passion fruit that we stumbled upon in the supermarket be our inspiration! We decided to fuse the fruit with limeade for a summer drink. That’s where this easy, tart fresh passion fruit limeade was born! My dad always makes the best limeade in the summer so this is partly an ode to him with a tropical twist. The passion fruit limeade was perfect by itself but I could also see it lending itself really well to a mixed drink! Follow the recipe below to try it out and let us know what you think!

The Details

We used fresh passionfruit for this recipe but recognize that’s not always available. We just happened to find it in the supermarket! Feel free to substitute frozen passion fruit pulp to taste.

To begin, we made a simple syrup which is basically a 1:1 mixture of water and sugar brought to a boil for a few minutes and then chilled. I used a cup of each because I like to have extra in the fridge — it’s so great in coffee! — but you can use less if you would like. Next, we juiced a bag of limes (we used about 10) to make a cup of lime juice. We added in the water, simple syrup, and the insides of the passion fruit and blended it all together. Chill your passion fruit limeade or serve with ice!

That’s it! It’s really that simple. When you try it, you’ll really see that it really makes a difference when you have fresh juice! As always, when you try this passion fruit limeade, tag us using #cocoverdevegan so we can see your creations!

Easy, Tart Fresh Passion Fruit Limeade

Course Drinks

Cuisine Latino Vegan

Servings 5 people

Ingredients

  • 1 cup lime juice (we used about 10 limes)

  • 3 passion fruits

  • 3.5 cups water

  • 6 tbsp simple syrup (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. First make your simple syrup! Mix a 1 to 1 ratio of water to sugar (so if you are using a cup of water, mix with a cup of sugar) in a sauce pan. Bring the mixture to a boil and stir for 5 minutes. Cool.

  2. Juice the limes and mix in the rest of the ingredients in a blender just for a minute. We didn't overly sweeten the limeade because we like the tartness, but you may want more simple syrup.

  3. Chill or serve over ice and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

*if you don't have access to fresh passion fruit (which we usually don't either, this was a supermarket miracle) feel free to use frozen pulp to taste.
